Rafael O. Morales

Rafael O. Morales is the 2012-2014 community development program fellow. Rafael comes to the Foundation after nearly 9 years at the National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions (Federation) where in 2008, Rafael relocated to San Francisco to establish the Federation’s West Coast Regional Office. As West Coast Program Officer, he served on the Bank on San Francisco Credit Union Subcommittee; the San Francisco Smart Money Network; and the Coordinating Council for the California Credit Union Network for Community Development. Prior to this, he served as the Federation’s Communications Officer and Public Affairs Officer, responsible for the internal and external communications, and conducting advocacy and fund procurement at the state and national levels. He also served as Coordinator of the New York State Coalition of Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs), overseeing the Federation’s 10-year effort to establish a state CDFI Fund, signed into law in July 2007. He currently serves as board chairman of Homeownership SF, as a board member of the California Center for Cooperative Development, and is a founding member of the National Network of Latino Credit Unions and Professionals. He is a graduate of Middlebury College, where he majored in International Studies with concentrations in political science and Spanish.
