Director of Marketing and Communications
Jen Thom is a Bay Area native who believes that communications is an essential tool to advance social justice and create meaningful change in people’s everyday lives.
At the Foundation, Jen partners with teams across disciplines to connect with and motivate their unique audiences to join the effort to advance racial and economic inclusion. She distills complex ideas into compelling and actionable messages, campaigns, and engagement opportunities, using audience insights to meet people where they are. One of her favorite parts of the work is organizing influencers, donors, and decision-makers, inspiring and empowering them to be a part of the solution.
Prior to joining The San Francisco Foundation, Jen worked at Fenton, a social change communications firm, helping a range of clients tell their stories and make the impact they wanted to see in the world. She worked with organizations such as the Annie E. Casey Foundation, Blue Shield of California Foundation, First 5 LA, Los Angeles Housing Services Authority, and Transgender Law Center, to develop messages and campaigns for key audiences, and earn positive media coverage.
At St. Anthony Foundation in San Francisco’s Tenderloin, she built and executed fundraising strategies focused on creating long-term partnerships, identifying untapped audiences, and creating deeper engagement with current donors.
Jen received her Bachelors in Journalism from San Francisco State University.
