Multicultural Fellow, Place
Why do you do what you do?
I believe all of us are part of the same social fabric — so when the entrenched systems in place continue to actively and passively oppress BIPOC, we fall short of our full potential as a society. I am driven to create a better future for these communities knowing there is a very simple solution — racial equity.
What drew you to the foundation?
As a mixed Latina and daughter of an immigrant, I have always been aware of structural inequities. I was drawn to the San Francisco Foundation’s intentional investment in racial equity and its work to make the Bay Area a better place for all our neighbors. Being at the foundation also provides an opportunity for me to be inspired by experts and changemakers and use different levers to make an impact.
How would you describe your role?
I implement the foundation’s equity agenda on the Place Team. That means I empower and uplift the organizations doing the inspiring work of preserving the unique, diverse landscape of the Bay Area so that all can live and belong here. I also build partnerships to form regional strategies to mitigate the housing crisis.
Are you involved in any volunteer activities?
I am a Commissioner on the City of Oakland’s Homelessness Advisory Commission.
