Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Programs
Why do you do what you do?
I was 1 when I immigrated with my family from Cambodia to the U.S. There were a number of organizations that supported my family’s transition to life here. I remember going to Glide Memorial Church one year, for example, so that my siblings and I could get Christmas presents. Nonprofit programs supported my family, and for that reason, I’ve always been committed to giving back to my community and supporting others who are struggling.
What drew you to the foundation?
I’ve lived in so many of the neighborhoods that the foundation works in — I grew up in the Tenderloin, I went to school in Hunters Point, and I lived in Richmond, CA. I appreciate the chance to be part of an organization that supports people in these neighborhoods and ones like them around the Bay, which for so long have been overlooked and under-supported.
How would you describe your role?
I coordinate our Program Department’s operations so that the team is best positioned to do its work. I help create a welcoming atmosphere where everyone can be their full selves.
