Multicultural Fellowship Program Officer
Why do you do what you do? What drew you to the foundation?
I came to this country from Peru when I was 3 years old. My family and I were undocumented for several years and our life outcomes were directly impacted by local and federal policy makers. Ultimately, the strength of my family and the investment of community-based organizations shaped my opportunity to thrive. I know my story is happening all over the region, and that’s why I’m so committed to the Bay Area and to the foundation’s mission to invest in our community. During this time in our history, I think it’s important that organizations commit themselves to equity. It’s a privilege for me to be able to do this work.
How would you describe your role?
My role is to advocate for people of color to break into this black box called philanthropy. We are putting the power of philanthropic capital into the hands of the communities of color that understand their own challenges most intimately.
