Why do you do what you do?

I recognize and have experienced the importance of empowering community to develop our leadership and capacity to take power into our hands and make change. I would not be here without all the people who guided me and helped me grow in my journey thus far. There is so much beauty and power in community and I want to do what I can to give back and work towards a vision of justice where everyone can live in joy and peace.

What drew you to the foundation?

The foundation’s explicit priority to address racial equity and economic security in the Bay Area drew me to this role. I want to be part of the conversations and movements that are happening across the Bay Area and continue to learn and grow in the process.

How would you describe your role?

My role in the foundation is unique. It’s an opportunity to learn about how a community foundation functions and its role in partnering with folks on the ground doing the important work. I am also supporting our Power Grantmaking to build power across the Bay Area, empowering and civically engaging people creating community change.  This role also gives me the opportunity to grow as a queer professional in philanthropy.

Are you involved in any volunteer activities?

I am a Commissioner with the San Mateo County LGBTQ Commission, a member of the Measure W Oversight Committee in San Mateo County, as well as a volunteer with the CoastPride Center in Half Moon Bay helping develop their youth engagement opportunities.
