Jidan Terry-Koon, MPA/URP
Why do you do what you do? What drew you to the foundation?
I came to the foundation because there is no other region like the Bay Area. Those who stewarded this land as well as those who have toiled to build this place deserve a home here. I was excited to join a foundation committed to the region in which four generations of my family have lived and worked. I was even more excited to join a foundation committed to advancing racial AND economic equity – not as separate concepts but as intimately intertwined systems.
How would you describe your role?
First and foremost, my role is to lift up the talents of the People pathway team and to amplify the vision as well as leadership of our grantee partners. The People pathway envisions a Bay Area where everyone prospers, regardless of the color of our skin and the zip code in which we live. We center our work around the expertise of our grantees and communities – the field leaders who best understand the root causes of – and solutions to – inequity. I bring a power building, systems change, and social movement lens to issues of economic inclusion. The People team also collaborates with multiple teams here at SFF, including Philanthropy and Gift Planning, Finance, Community Impact and Marketing and Communications in our effort to make this Bay Area a reality.
Are you involved in any volunteer activities?
I serve on the board of Courage California. I am also on the Steering Committee of the Economic Opportunity Funders and Coordinating Committee of Funders for a Just Economy.
