Brandon Johns
Senior Program Officer, Koshland Program
Why do you do what you do? What drew you to the foundation?
For the past 15 years, I’ve worked to advance social justice and equity in different capacities. I’ve always focused on supporting communities that have been systematically oppressed, which is why I was drawn to SFF’s mission.
How would you describe your role?
I provide support and resources to the people, communities and organizations that are on the ground doing imperative work in our neighborhoods. It is our responsibility to ensure that the leaders we work with have access to opportunities for personal and professional growth.
Are you involved in any volunteer work?
I am a founder and current board member of Making A New United People (M.A.N.U.P.), a nonprofit, community, mentor organization that works with underserved youth. I also volunteer with Community & Youth Outreach in Oakland.
