Why do you do what you do?

I have always been concerned about social justice issues and want to use my talents to support vulnerable communities. I have seen how philanthropy can be a powerful force in the field of social justice, and I want to help the San Francisco Foundation think strategically about how it can meet its bold and critical vision for the region.

What drew you to the foundation?

I grew up in the Peninsula and lived in the East Bay since my undergraduate years. I have always felt a deep connection to this region, which is rich in resources and yet failing so many families. Studying social science in college, I often found that so many problems could be traced back to economic inequality and communities not having what they need to truly be free. I was drawn to the foundation’s goals on racial equity and economic inclusion.

How would you describe your role?

My role has been described as the “glue machine” for the Community Impact department. I support the Chief Impact Officer in building trust and cohesion across the foundation’s diverse and interconnected grantmaking teams. I also help the department interpret our progress towards the foundation’s equity agenda, and strengthen community engagement.

Are you involved in any volunteer activities?

I volunteered weekly at the Alameda County Crisis Support Services.
