SAN FRANCISCO, CA – The San Francisco Foundation (SFF) announces today that Jessamyn Sabbag has been hired as Senior Director of the Power Pathway. Jessamyn brings decades of experience developing collaborative political strategy and designing and running issue-based and candidate campaigns.
“We are incredibly fortunate to have Jessamyn join our team,” says CEO Fred Blackwell. “She brings a wealth of community organizing experience to lead our Power Pathway, which ensures that everyone in the Bay Area has a strong political voice and can shape the decisions that affect their lives and communities.”
Jessamyn found her way into organizing in the late 1990s and early 2000s as she fought to divert funds and energy away from militarism after years of protesting the wars in the Middle East, Southwest Asia, and North Africa, and tackling police brutality at home. She found her niche in integrated electoral organizing and leftist political power building and worked to advance racial and economic justice in her beloved Oakland as a leader at Oakland Rising and Oakland Rising Action.
“I’m excited to bring my strategic organizing and power-building experience to the intrepid and impactful team at the San Francisco Foundation,” says Jessamyn. “I look forward to making bold moves together to amplify the political power of working-class communities of color across the Bay Area.”
Jessamyn also brings extensive experience building a grassroots voter base of working-class people of color that exceeded 25 percent of Oakland’s electorate, developing the values-based leadership of hundreds of community members, and contributing to shifting the political landscape to the left and winning systemic change at the city, regional and state level. She will begin her new role on March 23.
