We join many others across the Bay Area as we mourn the loss of Rev. Cecil Williams, a lifelong social justice activist, who passed away yesterday. Rev. Williams, and the Glide Memorial Church as well as Glide Foundation that he led, have been invaluable forces in our shared vision to create an inclusive Bay Area where everyone can thrive.
Rev. Williams and Glide have also been longtime partners in SFF’s FAITHS program, which we launched in 1993 as an interfaith initiative to advance racial equity in the Bay Area. Rev. Williams’ late wife, Janice Mirikitani, a brilliant poet and activist, received SFF’s 2015 Community Leadership Award. May Cecil and Janice both rest in peace.
