Why do you do what you do?

I’ve spent about 18 years in the nonprofit world, mostly behind the scenes, making sure things run smoothly so the people doing the public-facing work can focus on it. I’ve always thought of myself as a scribe and steward of records, and it was important to me that I use skills like these to support missions promoting values that prioritize safe, thriving communities. To me, the work I do enables leaders to keep the team moving forward so they can focus on the bigger picture.

What drew you to the foundation?

I’ve worked at Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California, California Forward, and most recently the Immigration Institute of the Bay Area. Each one focused on a single piece of what makes the Bay Area a place where people can thrive and feel safe in their communities. SFF sees the whole picture and brings generous people together, guiding them towards the values our org stands for. After years of seeing what one well-timed gift or grant can do for an organization, I really wanted to be part of that.

How would you describe your role?

I’m the executive assistant for our Philanthropy and Gift Planning team, supporting our Chief Philanthropy Officer, Rehana. I’m responsible for keeping the team organized: calendars, meetings, events, donor communications, and all the behind-the-scenes pieces that make it easier for people to give.

What inspires you?

Non-fiction books, movies (everything from TCM to A24), and road trips with my partner and dog (Val). I listen to podcasts way too quickly and am constantly in search of a new one, so I always appreciate recommendations! I am inspired daily by my friends and past colleagues who are constantly doing incredible work that makes California a place that celebrates diversity, has affordable housing, and access to opportunities – regardless of immigration status.
