Why do you do what you do?

I have been raised by my community across generations and struggles to fight for the right of a dignified life for all. I honor this legacy by wholly committing myself as an organizer and practitioner of social justice here in the Bay Area. A love and hope for humanity and the powerful history of the Bay have guided me in my work towards liberation for all.

What drew you to the foundation?

I have been a community organizer in the Bay area for several years and have seen the importance of a community foundation like the San Francisco Foundation firsthand. As a grantee, I have seen the Foundation’s commitment to a long-term strategy for the progressive movement and racial equity agenda. As a convener, the foundation goes beyond resourcing the movement into being a key player for progress in and protections of movements that support our communities, improve conditions, and grow new leaders and organizers.

How would you describe your role?

I help support my team in the execution of grantmaking and strategic convening to work towards racial equity and economic inclusion in the Bay. I work to build relationships with local grassroots organizations and work collaboratively with them in our process of movement-building.

What inspires you?

As a Palestinian American, my people and family inspire me, they embody the meaning of steadfastness and a true love for the land.
