A message from San Francisco Foundation Board Chair Bob Friedman:
San Francisco Foundation is driven by the enduring values of the Bay Area – a region that has long championed social justice and the fundamental belief that everyone, without exception, deserves the opportunity to thrive.
We recognize that these values are not universally accepted, and that standing up for them may come at a cost. But we also know that silence is not an option. As SFF CEO Fred Blackwell reminds us: “Courage is contagious.”
Our Board is a diverse and dedicated group of individuals who share a deep commitment to the mission of the San Francisco Foundation. We stand united, ready to support our community and uphold the principles we hold dear.
Together, we have approved allocating an additional $15 million from our endowment and reserves to strengthen our community and grantee partners, enabling them to continue fighting for and serving our communities with resilience and determination.
This additional $15 million commitment, allocated over two years, bolsters our response to pressing challenges impacting the Bay Area. A key focus will be strengthening our essential grantee partners who work tirelessly to build a more racially equitable and economically inclusive region for everyone. We will also launch new efforts to protect and support our vibrant immigrant communities. Furthermore, these funds will enable us to expand co-investment opportunities with our donors, jointly pursuing bold initiatives that enhance the Bay Area’s values and leadership.
I am inspired by the many organizations and foundations affirming their commitment to social justice. Speaking up and standing firm demonstrates our collective strength.
SFF’s Board is committed to collective action with our donors, fellow foundations, and community leaders. We look forward to sharing the impact of this additional grantmaking support with you as things unfold. Thank you for your continued support and partnership.
