How to Make a Gift

Pay by Check

Send a check payable to The San Francisco Foundation. Indicate the name of your fund in the memo line and mail the check to:

Pay by Credit Card

Complete the online donation form below and select the Impact Area from the options. To make a gift to a specific DAF, select “DAF (Add Fund Name in Note)” AND check the ”Add a note to your donation“ box to provide the DAF name or other gift information, and complete the giving prompts.

Please note: We can accept online donations through Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Google Pay and Apple Pay. There is an option for you to pay the third-party merchant processing fees (transaction fees). These transaction fees range from 2.95% to 3.95%. The amount added to your donor advised fund (or to another fund you select) will be reduced by any fees charged unless you cover the transaction fees up front by checking the “Cover transaction fees” on the donation form.

Gifts of Cryptocurrency

Giving cryptocurrency can be a tax-efficient way to open or add to a Donor Advised Fund, or make a gift to the San Francisco Foundation.

To donate cryptocurrencies, go directly to the online donation form below and select the Crypto tab and enter your transaction details. Please contact the Donor Services team at donorservices[at]sff.org or (415) 733-8590 for more information and assistance.

Give from your IRA

To make a gift from your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) to the foundation, see detailed instructions or please contact Stephanie Dustman at (415) 733-8534 or sdustman[at]sff.org.

Matching Gifts

Did you know many employers will match or even triple your donation to the San Francisco Foundation? Some employers will even match gifts from spouses and retirees.

By completing a matching gift form, you may be able to double or triple your gift! Your donation plus a matching gift will support the San Francisco Foundation’s effective, long-term solutions to building a future where everyone can thrive.

Below are available funds and programs administered by San Francisco Foundation to consider for your giving. Please be sure to select or indicate the fund name on the donation form above or check.

DAF (Add Fund Name in Note)

To make a gift to a named Donor Advised Fund (DAF), please complete the online donation form and select “DAF (Add Fund Name in Note)” AND check the ”Add a note to your donation” box and click the Donate button. You will be directed to Donation Note, where you will provide the DAF name or other gift information. After adding the gift details, click Next to complete the giving prompts.

Bay Area Leads

The Bay Area Leads fund provides flexible support for SFF to harness the power of our community to address the most pressing issues of our time. Through this fund, SFF is able to launch innovative initiatives, convene stakeholders to address key issues like affordable housing, and do the work to change systems at scale.

SFF Artistic Hubs Cohort

Support the foundation’s Artistic Hubs Cohort to support arts organizations that advance racial and economic equity and serve as cultural anchors for underserved communities.

SFF Arts & Culture Fund

Arts and culture institutions are critical to the fabric of the community, and through this fund, together we can ensure their sustainability and resiliency. This fund will support nonprofits in the arts and culture sector throughout the Bay Area.

SFF Democracy Fund

With democracy under attack, we must act now to ensure that all voices in our community are empowered. No matter the population – women, immigrant communities, LGBTQ2SIA+, and many others – supporting this fund ensures that all members of our society in the Bay Area can exercise their political voice.

SFF Education Fund

Whether through traditional education pathways or workforce development programs, this fund provides support for nonprofits that are striving to provide quality education and opportunities for all.

SFF Environmental Fund

Environmental equity, a changing climate, and its impacts on the region will continue to affect all who call the Bay Area home. Through this fund, together we can support environmental justice and education, centering our communities most vulnerable to climate change.

SFF Housing Fund

One of the most pressing issues facing the Bay Area at this current moment, this fund will help SFF continue to scale our impact in housing and homelessness.

SFF Racial Equity Fund

Racial equity and economic inclusion are SFF’s north star. This fund supports criminal justice reform, reparations work, economic security & wealth building, and health & wellness for communities of color across the region.

SFF Rapid Response Fund for Movement Building

Support the foundation’s Rapid Response Fund for Movement Building that promotes civil rights and builds the political power and voice of low-income communities, immigrants and people of color, by providing resources in a timely manner to unanticipated, but critical opportunities and challenges to advance racial and economic equity in the Bay Area.

SFF Scholarship for SF State

The SFF Scholarship for SF State provides scholarships to SF State students who identify as Black and who demonstrate financial need. The program aims to give students a fair chance to complete their studies and contribute their talents to an inclusive, thriving Bay Area.

SFF Womxn of Color, Womxn of Power

The Womxn of Color, Womxn of Power is a program that helps womxn of color fill leadership positions, and create a more inclusive Bay Area.

Bailard Foundation Fund

The Bailard Foundation was created to formalize Bailard’s decades-long dedication to giving back. Over our more than 50-year history, Bailard and its employees have supported countless non-profits through the donation of both time and financial support. Today, the Bailard Foundation continues the legacy of supporting our community, via its three core focus areas of affordable housing, homelessness & poverty, and financial literacy.

Ballet Endowment of Northern California

The Ballet Endowment of Northern California harnesses the transformative power of ballet as an art form to enrich the lives of individuals and communities. Our mission is to promote accessibility, inclusivity, and empowerment through the medium of dance.

Black Harvest Fund

The Black Harvest Fund invests in non-profits that advance the work of Black farmers and farmers of color. Learn more.

The Black Wellness Fund invests in organizations that address issues of mental health, economic development, and education for African American residents in the San Francisco Bay Area. Learn more.

DST Vivian Osborne Marsh Scholarship

On February 21, 1921, seven courageous collegiates chartered Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Kappa Chapter, at UC Berkeley. In honor of Kappa Chapter’s centennial, Vivian Osborne Marsh, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc, Kappa Chapter is raising $250,000 to create an endowed scholarship for African American students at Cal. Isaac Zimmern Memorial Fund

The Isaac Zimmern Memorial Fund has been established to honor the life of Isaac Zimmern. It will be used to support organizations and causes that were important to Isaac.

Justice William Newsom Fund

The Justice William Newsom Fund supports nonprofit organizations and social causes that were important to Justice Newsom, all surrounding the environment.

Richard Armstrong Memorial Fund

The Richard Armstrong Memorial Fund has been established to honor the life of Rich Armstrong. It will be used to support organizations important to him, including Wilcox High School Music Department, Vanguard Music and Performing Arts, Brass Memorial Scholarship, and Waldorf School of the Peninsula, Music Program.

UCB African American Scholarship

The UCB African American Scholarship provides scholarships to African American students that have been admitted to UC Berkeley as incoming freshmen to help make their Cal education more accessible. Learn more.
