On October 24, SFF hosted our Bay Area Together event that brought together members of our community from the nonprofit, public, and private sectors across the Bay Area. It was a beautiful convening, culminating our shared love for the Bay Area and celebrating with music and moving performances from local artists.
The evening began with a fireside chat featuring SFF CEO, Fred Blackwell, and KQED Chief Content Officer and SFF Trustee, Holly Kernan. “When we’re engaging in social justice or we’re talking about racial equity or economic inclusion, it’s not a box that we’re trying to check,” said Blackwell. “It’s a vision and an aspiration for what this community, what the Bay Area, what the world, what the United States can actually be.”
The event’s entertainment included: original poetry by Youth Speaks, grounded in their experiences in the Bay Area; a vibrant musical performance by Audiopharmacy; live screen printing art by Social Imprints; delicious catering from Pinx; and rooftop dancing and music with DJ Leydis of Cuba.
“We are here today to celebrate being in community with one another, particularly at a time when it feels important to do so and to be in partnership with one another,” said Blackwell. “We are all in this together.”
A special thank you to our community for making this event possible: Adriana Oyarzun, Tooney White, Mayad Studios, Secret Gardens, The Pearl, and Inspired Events.
