SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Since 1963, The San Francisco Foundation’s Community Leadership Awards have recognized the Bay Area’s most creative, innovative, and community-driven leaders who address the region’s most pressing challenges. Today, we announce the winners of the 2018 awards:
- Art Award: Marc Bamuthi Joseph, 2017 TED Global Fellow, founding Program Director of Youth Speaks, and Chief of Program and Pedagogy at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, where he oversees the organization’s performing arts program and signature initiatives such as YBCA Fellows and the YBCA 100.
- Impact Award: Nuestra Casa, a community education organization dedicated to increasing civic participation and promoting economic self-sustainability of the Latino immigrant population of East Palo Alto and the area served by the Ravenswood City School District.
- Innovation Award: Family Independence Initiative, an organization accelerating the upwards economic mobility of low-income families by letting them harness the power of their own data through FII’s proprietary, cloud-based technology platform called UpTogether.
- Leadership Award: Del Seymour, veteran and founder of Tenderloin Walking Tours and Code Tenderloin, a nonprofit that provides job readiness training and basic coding skills to San Francisco’s homeless, formerly incarcerated, and disenfranchised populations with the goal of putting them to work in the tech industry.
“The San Francisco Foundation is proud to recognize these outstanding individuals and organizations,” said Fred Blackwell, CEO of The San Francisco Foundation. “They are pillars in our community, and they are on the ground, every day, pushing for greater equity in our region. We are deeply grateful to them for their work.”
Award winners will be honored in a ceremony on October 25.
