Amelia Solis Macias
Initiative Associate, Great Communities Collaborative
Why do you do what you do?
I grew up in a multilingual, immigrant, working-class community on the Peninsula, a place where disparity is deeply evident. As I grew older, I witnessed how the community I grew up in became increasingly displaced. This experience motivated me to work towards ensuring that my community and others like mine can access the resources they need to prosper.
What drew you to the foundation?
I was drawn to the foundation because of the collegial atmosphere, deep commitment to our shared values, and the genuine interest in the professional development of staff. I love that here at the Foundation, we can speak openly and honestly about the multifaceted challenges our communities face and what our role can be in their solution.
How would you describe your role?
I provide operational and administrative support, and coordination for our many partners for the Great Communities Collaborative.
What inspires you?
I am inspired by my family– my mother, father, and sister. They taught me the value of perseverance and sacrifice and they continue to inspire me every day. From them, I’ve learned that with hard work, strategic risk, and laughter, any obstacle is surmountable.
