We stand with the students and staff injured in the recent school shooting in Oakland. We stand with the students and staff traumatized in their schools. We stand with the families and friends bracing for the unthinkable and the families fearing that their school could be next. And with those who hear shots and face gun violence daily.
Gun violence is devastating our communities. Taking away the safe places our kids need to learn and play. Taking away our ability to come together and build community. We cannot treat gun violence like it is somebody else’s issue. It undermines all of our work to build a better Bay Area. We cannot thrive when people are scared to walk down their block, or go to school, or worship together. We must work together to get the guns off the street and invest in our communities to build belonging and connection. The answers are in our communities. We must listen and act.
