Chris Campbell
Grants Manager
Why do you do what you do?
Community foundations are the bridge between philanthropists, community leaders, elected officials, and the groups that are doing the work of creating positive change in the Bay Area and beyond.
What drew you to the foundation?
SFF has a long and rich history of providing meaningful support to Bay Area nonprofit organizations. I am inspired by that history and want to help build SFF’s future, in particular the foundation’s equity approach.
How would you describe your role?
A major function of the foundation is to provide charitable grants to organizations in the Bay Area and elsewhere. The grantmaking process can be complex and overwhelming for our donors and the organizations we support. My role is to (1) ensure that the foundation is aware of grantmaking best practices and is operating within charitable laws and regulations determined by the IRS, and to (2) demystify the grant making process for the foundation’s grant recipients by facilitating an approachable and straightforward grants administration process from application to payment.
What inspires you?
I am always inspired by the resilience of community members and community-based organizations in the face of systemic oppression and adversity. I am also inspired by the generosity of our donors, my family and friends, and my dog.
