Thuy Kumar
Senior Officer, Marketing and Communications
Why do you do what you do?
Communications has been a constant thread in my work and home life. I naturally love to tell stories, create connections, help others understand better, and make information accessible. The world of communications has also evolved over the course of my career, offering continuous learning, development, and excitement to my work.
What drew you to the foundation?
I came to the foundation because of its commitment to advancing racial equity and economic inclusion so that everyone in the Bay Area can thrive. As a first-generation Vietnamese-American, I witnessed firsthand my family’s struggle to navigate home, work, school and our community with little to no support. My family faced challenges that prevented us from being fully included in our community. It was a no brainer for me to take the opportunity to work with an organization that serves the Bay Area to ensure that everyone has a chance of getting a good education, job, live in safe homes, and uplift political voices.
How would you describe your role?
I share stories and news about the foundation’s work, grantees, donors, partner foundation and nonprofit organizations in the Bay Area through digital communications. People engage online in multiple ways, and I help create that space, channel, or format to allow for our communities and supporters to listen, learn, and act.
