Investing in Communities: Bay Area Community Impact Fund Update July 2021

We are emerging into a new season in so many ways right now, pivoting into recovery from the worst of the COVID-19 crisis in the Bay Area. With vaccinations well underway we are navigating coming together in person in the community again, returning to school, to workplaces, and to the special social and cultural places that are part of our lives.

It is critical that we continue to invest in the Bay Area at this moment. The Bay Area Community Impact Fund is a powerful way to do that together.

The Bay Area Community Impact Fund enables us to partner with donors and other institutions to maximize the impact of philanthropic dollars and make a difference in the region. An investment in the fund has an immediate positive and catalytic impact in our communities, and capital is returned to the donor advised fund to make grants in the future.

During the early stages of the Covid-19 pandemic, we pivoted to support small businesses in need of stabilizing capital and were flexible with borrowers during this challenging time. Now more than ever, we are seeing increasing demands for our limited capital.

Our investments in the last few years have focused on supporting small businesses owned by people of color, preventing homelessness, and building community wealth through investing in collective ownership. All remain our priority areas and are made even more pressing at this time. We hope you will learn more about the organizations we have partnered with in 2020.

We set out to make a difference with a fund that is directly invested in Bay Area communities. And, the concept is working. Over the lifetime of the Fund, we have invested nearly $27 million in efforts across the Bay Area creating over 6,000 affordable homes, and nearly 24,000 permanent jobs without any loan losses.

We are committed to continuing to play a catalytic role in the Bay Area, reimagining and rebuilding better than what we had before, gathering more resources and partners dedicated to this work.

We hope you enjoy reading about BACIF and join us in making impactful community investments.
