SAN FRANCISCO, CA – San Francisco Foundation (SFF) announces that Bob Friedman and David ibnAle have been appointed Chair and Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees. Their two-year appointments are in effect until June 30, 2025.
“We’re extremely fortunate to work with Bob and David in this capacity,” says SFF CEO Fred Blackwell. “Their experience working on economic equity and investing strengthens our leadership and ability to advance racial equity in the Bay Area.”
Bob Friedman has served on the foundation’s Board since 2015, and as the Board’s Vice Chair since 2021. He is founder of Prosperity Now where he worked to create the US asset-building, microenterprise and development finance fields and close the racial wealth divide. Bob is also the grandson of Daniel E. Koshland Sr., who 75 years ago co-founded the San Francisco Foundation to serve as a community vehicle for change throughout the region.
“I believe that the Bay Area can and should lead the quest for racial equity and economic inclusion in significant and measurable ways, and that the San Francisco Foundation with its incredible board, leadership, staff, 3,000 grantees, hundreds of donors, partners and history can be an essential catalyst in that quest,” says Friedman. “I am honored and grateful for the opportunity to contribute and continue our multigenerational effort to make the Bay Area the beacon of equity, prosperity and resilience we should and can be, a place which respects the brilliance and potential of all people, especially those too often left out of our collective promise.”
David ibnAle has served on the foundation’s Board since 2018. He also serves as the chair of the foundation’s Investment Committee. He is the founding and managing partner of Advance Venture Partners, a San Francisco based venture capital firm, and has over twenty-five years of experience as a technology investor. He currently serves on the boards of directors of Affinity, AutoLeap, Alto Solutions, Headspace, Morning Consult, Nativo, UrbanSitter and Ultra Clean Technology (NASDAQ: UCTT).
“I could not be more excited about the opportunity to work with Fred Blackwell and the rest of the foundation’s team to continue to advance racial and economic equity in the San Francisco Bay Area,” says ibnAle. “The foundation’s team, Board of Trustees, partners and collaborators are committed to making the Bay Area a better place for all of the people who call this region home.”
On June 30, Ophelia Basgal completed her term as Chair of the Board, as well as two terms on the Board of Trustees.
