Heather Graham
Director, Grants Administration
Why do you do what you do?
There is much suffering in the world. I cannot ignore this, and I cannot do nothing. Growing up, I had wonderful role models who worked in the nonprofit, government, education, and religious sectors to enact positive change. This was my normal.
What drew you to the foundation?
Advancing equity and serving underserved communities of color, which so greatly enrich the San Francisco Bay Area and the nation, speak to my heart. It is a privilege to work on issues that are important to me and with people who care deeply for our community.
How would you describe your role?
I focus on using best practices to advance SFF’s mission and serve our donors, applicants, grantees, and colleagues. I am fortunate to work with an extraordinary team of experts in the field to create and implement policies and procedures that facilitate creative, compliant, and effective grantmaking.
What inspires you?
Cultures and creatures top my list. I love traveling and learning about other cultures. I also love supporting and working with animals, not the least of which is volunteering at the Best Friends sanctuary in Utah. My happy downtime is walking the dog to enjoy coffee and a good book at the Chocolate Dragon Cafe in Oakland.
