Professional Advisors Council

Our Professional Advisors Council includes individuals from a variety of disciplines, including law, accounting, financial planning, insurance and investment, and wealth management. Members are invited to serve two-year terms of service, and they share our commitment to building a better Bay Area, an interest in our programmatic work and to the power of charitable giving. Meetings are held exclusively for members of the council four times per year and provide a forum to discuss new initiatives at the foundation and gift planning strategies.

We are grateful for the involvement of these professionals in our work, as members provide the foundation with critical feedback and guidance.

2019 – 2020 Members

Alma Soongi Beck, Esq. (Co-Chair) | Partner, Lakin Spears, LLP

Alma is a partner in the Trusts and Estates Group at Lakin Spears where she specializes in estate planning and trust/estate administration. She has particular interest and expertise with LGBT estate planning, property issues for unmarried couples, and Medi-Cal/long-term care planning. Alma received her B.A. from Yale University, her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, and her LL.M. in Taxation from Golden Gate University Law School. Fun Fact: If you meet Alma, feel free to talk about surfing, corgis and other cute dogs, K-Pop, and efforts to stop and reverse climate change.

Rachel R. Caldwell | Managing Director, Andersen Tax

Rachel Caldwell is a member of the Andersen Tax Private Client Services group and works with wealthy families to assist individuals and multi-generational family groups with tax planning and compliance. Rachel has over 14 years of experience in professional tax and accounting services. Rachel received her B.S. in Accounting from Utah State University and her Master of Legal Studies in Taxation (MLST) from the University of San Francisco. Fun Fact: Rachel recently tried cat yoga with her daughter and is never going back to regular yoga.

Caitlin Carey | Partner, Perkins Coie LLP

Caitlin Carey serves as Partner at Perkins Coie LLP, where she advises clients in the areas of estate planning, tax planning, premarital planning, trust administration and probate court matters. Caitlin’s clients include individuals and families of all types. Caitlin received a B.A. in English from Boston University, a J.D. from the University of Oregon School of Law and an LL.M. in Taxation from Golden Gate University.

Virg Cristobal, CFP® | Partner, Chrome Advisors

Virg is a Partner at Chrome Advisors, where he provides financial planning for successful families and business owners. He specializes in designing and implementing creative strategies for his clients. Virg graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Fun Fact: Virg and his wife Audrey are actively engaged in the community. They have two children.

Richard Davis-Lowell, C.F.P., CEPA | Senior Director, BNY Mellon Wealth Management

As the Senior Director at BNY Mellon Wealth Management, Richard is responsible for new business development in Northern California. Richard works with individuals, families, foundations, and endowments to identify how BNY Mellon Wealth Management’s capabilities can help them reach their wealth management goals. Richard received his B.S. in Political Science from the University of California, Los Angeles. He holds the CFP and CEPA designations. Fun Fact:  Richard enjoys raising freshwater tropical fish and is a member of the SF Aquarium Society.

Lisi Bailliere Dean | Senior Vice President and Investment Counselor, Capital Group Private Client Services

As Senior Vice President and Investment Counselor for Capital Group Private Client Services, Lisi works directly with high net worth individuals and families to create customized plans for protecting and growing their wealth, often across multiple generations.  Lisi also helps nonprofit foundations and endowments to realize their long-term financial objectives through effective planning and investment management. She holds a B.A. from Harvard and her M.B.A. from Northwestern University’s J.L. Kellogg School of Management. Fun fact: Lisi is a former player on the US Women’s Lacrosse team.

Mitchell Edwards, Esq. | Partner, Coblentz Patch Duffy & Bass LLP

Mitch Edwards is a Partner at Coblentz Patch Duffy & Bass LLP, where he focuses on estate planning for high net worth individuals and trust and estate litigation and administration. Mitch is a member of the San Francisco Estate Planning Council and the Trusts and Estates Section of the State Bar of California. Mitch received a B.A. in Psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles and a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. Fun fact: Mitch and his partner, Erica, own two French bulldogs named Willie Nelson and Dollie Parton.

Meredith Shuey Etherington | Portfolio Manager, Brown Advisory

Meredith is a partner and portfolio manager at Brown Advisory in San Francisco. Meredith provides individuals, families and institutions with strategic investment solutions and advice, and has more than 20 years of investment experience. Prior to rejoining the firm in 2019, she served as a senior investment advisor at Litman Gregory Asset Management. Meredith is a graduate of Vanderbilt University with a double major in Human & Organizational Development and Fine Arts. She earned her MBA at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. Fun Fact: Meredith played on the Division I women’s lacrosse team at Vanderbilt and hopes to coach her sons one day!

Lorna Padia Markus | Partner, Mowat Mackie & Anderson

Lorna is a Partner at Mowat Mackie & Anderson LLP, where she specializes in working with closely held businesses, high net worth individuals with complex tax situations and employee benefit plans. Lorna is an active community volunteer, having served on the boards of the ALS & Neuromuscular Research Center, Stepping Stones Growth Center, Rotary Club of Oakland, the Oakland Rotary Endowment and is the treasurer for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Contra Costa. Lorna has a B.S. in Business with an emphasis in Accounting from San Francisco State University. Fun Fact: In her free time, she enjoys volunteering twice a month to serve up a fabulous full breakfast menu or preparing wine paired dinners for family and friends.

Julia Matsudaira | Senior Vice President, Jordan Park

Julia is Senior Vice President at Jordan Park. Prior to joining Jordan Park, Julia was a Vice President at Goldman Sachs and spent 10 years in the nonprofit sector focused on education and leadership development. Julia received her B.A. in East Asian Studies from Wesleyan University and her MBA from Cornell University Johnson Graduate School of Management. Fun Fact: Julia is passionate about mentoring and coaching.

Karl Mill | Principal, Adler & Colvin

Karl is Principal at Adler & Colvin, where his practice focuses on the representation of a wide variety of nonprofit and tax-exempt organizations, including both public charities and private foundations, with an emphasis on charitable gift planning, federal tax law, and social enterprise. Karl holds in B.A. in Philosophy from Marist College, an M.A. in Education from the University of Mississippi, and a J.D. from Columbia University. Fun Fact: Karl used to teach High School Algebra in Sardis, Mississippi.

Gigi Orta | Executive Director, J.P. Morgan Private Bank

Gigi is a Wealth Advisor at J.P. Morgan Private Bank covering San Francisco and Palo Alto clients. As an estate planning attorney, Gigi provides comprehensive, personalized estate planning and wealth-transfer counseling to couples, families and individuals. Gigi received a B.S. from Syracuse University, a J.D. from the University of San Francisco and an L.LM. in Taxation from Golden Gate University. Fun fact: Gigi was a radio DJ in college.

Jeffrey M. Ostrum, C.F.P. | Managing Principal, Financial Architect Partners

Jeff is the Managing Principal of the Financial Architect Partners West Coast operation based in Palo Alto. Jeff graduated from Bentley University with a B.A. in Marketing. Jeff is a Certified Financial Planner and a member of the San Francisco Estate Planning Council.

George Rokas, C.F.A. | Vice President, Northern Trust

George is Vice President at Northern Trust where he works with clients to understand their goals and build comprehensive financial plans to help them achieve those goals. George holds a B.S. in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance from the University of California at Berkeley. He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst. Fun Fact: When he is not working, George enjoys cooking, cycling and tennis.

Elizabeth Sevilla, CLU, ChFC | Partner, Seiler LLP

Elizabeth is a Partner at Seiler LLP. She is a leader in Seiler’s Trusts and Estates practice. Elizabeth received degrees in Psychology and Economics from the University of the Philippines. Elizabeth also has Chartered Life Underwriter and Charter Financial Consultant certifications from the American College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvaniaand is an Enrolled Agent with the Internal Revenue Service. Fun Fact: Elizabeth loves to experiment with food and wine pairings!

Lan Shaw, C.F.P. | Founder, Vision Financial Planning, Inc.

Lan is the Founder of Vision Financial Planning, Inc., where she helps individuals, couples, independent women and families pursue their dreams and make meaningful financial decisions that are true to their values. Lan received her B.S. in Systems Engineering from Tianjin University in China and her MBA from Lancaster University Management School in the UK. Fun fact: Lan bungy jumped 141 feet off the Kawarau Bridge in Queenstown, New Zealand, where the world’s first bungy jump took place.

Endy Ukoha-Ajike, LL.M. | Attorney, Ukoha-Ajike Law Group, P.C.

Endy is a California licensed attorney who practices primarily in the areas of Tax, Estate Planning, Business Consulting and Non-Profit consulting. He started the Ukoha-Ajike Law Group in July 2002. Endy has an LL.M. (Masters of Law in Taxation) from Golden Gate University. Endy also has a Certificate in Negotiations from the Negotiations Institute of Harvard University Law School. Fun Fact: Endy is a very passionate football (soccer) fan. He still enthusiastically follows the worldwide game. Endy played on a semi-pro level while growing up in Nigeria and misses playing the beautiful game.
